Azarra is staffed by a talented team of individual businesses. We offer private and semi-private rooms where creative professionals perform their best work. When you arrive for your visit, please go directly to the room of the stylist you are scheduled to see. (See map for location.)
Aura doesn't hesitate to suggest changes to keep clients' looks updated, nor is she shy about trying new things. She is uniquely skilled at helping clients find styles that flatter them, fit into their lifestyle, and don't take ages to style. If you want a haircut that looks good even if you aren't gifted with styling tools and techniques, Aura has an answer. She was voted Tacoma's Best Haircutter two years in a row, so whether you want a technically precise cut (she trained at Vidal Sassoon) or a more fluid razor cut, you will be in good hands. (Cut & Style: $75)
While she has a special affinity for using bright, crayon colors (the class she teaches most often to other hairdressers is about working with these dyes), Aura understands that not everyone wants color that draws attention to itself. She is just as happy to create a look so natural that no one knows your hair is colored.
Aura works to craft a custom color for each client and may use any number of tools, techniques, and technology including hand painting, balayage and precision foiling. Elumen High-Performance Haircolor or Olaplex Bond Multiplier are included in all color services. Creative sessions with Aura Mae are billed at $100/hour and are limited to a maximum of four hours (most sessions are 2-3 hours). If your hair requires more work than can be accomplished in one session, a plan will be put in place for your Haircolor Journey.
In addition to providing clients in the salon with beautiful hair, Aura has other projects she pursues. She spent a number of years as a traveling educator teaching classes to hairdressers across the country for major haircolor manufacturers. She now serves on the Board of Directors for the American Board of Certified Haircolorists and is a speaker at their annual Energizing Summit.
In her first book, Get Some Hairapy! A hairdresser's prescription for happiness, she shares her best insights and stories to help you create the life you deserve. Copies are available at your favorite online bookseller (including Kindle Unlimited.)
Be advised that Aura has a very full calendar. To ensure your hair is maintained on schedule, it is highly recommended that you schedule your next visit before leaving the salon.
Her hair work can be found on social media by searching #auramae. Her food can be found at #theauramaeway. Feel free to email with questions.
Carrie began her career in the downtown market and has been in the Harmon building for years (through all the construction!). She was the driving force that brought Azarra (for whom she worked in the 1990's) downtown and brought this team of highly trained and highly skilled colorists together.
Carrie's artistic flair shows through in everything she does. She is a singer/songwriter and is currently working on her second album with Tahoma Souls Alive. (Copies of her first album are available in the salon.) Follow her musical journey on Facebook:
She has an understanding of curly hair that only a curly-haired person can have and knows first hand what it's like to have a tender scalp.
If you want to enhance your curl, Carrie can cut it so that it performs at it's best. She will show you the proper products and techniques to showcase your curl.
Are you frustrated with keeping your beautiful brunette hair now that grey hair is making its way into the mix? Carrie has a unique affinity for keeping dark hair luscious.
If you want to control your curl and try straighter hair for a while, ask her about our Keratin Treatments. It will give you straighter, smoother hair for 3-6 months with no damage and no commitment. (Consultations are mandatory for this service.)
Colors with Carrie start at $75, highlights are $50-150, cuts are $50. Keratin Straightening is $200-$400, takes 2-5 hours and lasts 3-6 months.
Carrie is in the salon Tuesday - Saturday and offers late evening appointments by request. Contact Carrie with any questions.

She loves the art and craft of working with hair and making her clients feel beautiful. A true member of the family, Jennifer has been there for proms, weddings and baby's first cuts. Many of her clients come in together as a family, often three generations at once.
Away from the salon, she is passionate about staying healthy so that she can continue her career for many more years. She loves yoga, her dogs (#bulldogsofinstagram) and annual family rituals of camping and mushroom foraging. In 2014, she participated in her first triathlon.
No matter what your hair needs are, Jennifer has a practical, real-world solution.
I am a Tacoma native, mother of one very wonderful little lady, blogger/vlogger (The Good Wife Beauty - thegoodwifebeauty.com & My Amazing Life - missehrin.com), Cosmetologist, Esthetician, Licensed Independent educator and Tea snob. I completed all of my professional training at Clover Park Technical College in Lakewood, where I sit on the advisory board, substitute teach and offer curly hair continued education classes. I am a certified DevaCurl (devacurl.com) stylist and a certified colorist with The American Board of Certified Haircolorists.
I have been in the beauty industry since 2005 and continued education has always been a priority for advancing my career beyond the norm. It has given me the opportunity to make a real difference in my community. By participating in and offering curly hair education and hair color education I am able to dispel a lot of myths surrounding the two subjects, changing the way people in Tacoma feel about their Curls, and opening their eyes to new possibilities with hair color. I enjoy working with curly hair because it reminds me of myself, seemingly unwilling to behave but in reality just very sensitive and habitually dehydrated.
After a few years in a different salon, I chose to come back to Azarra because of the like-minded attitude of everyone here. The stylists are striving to be better for themselves, their clients and the industry so don't be alarmed if another stylist comes over to investigate what we are doing. By asking me questions about what is happening with my client's hair, my co-workers are actually helping me become a better educator and it's a big part of why I'm here. This is a safe place for everyone to be themselves, learn, grow, ask questions, express opinions and feel loved. This is my family.
Additional services: Private Parties, MeetUps, Public Speaking, Education, Individual Tutoring.
Born and raised in Juneau, AK Staci loves adventure and the outdoors. She is a new bride, a step mommy to an amazing 7-year-old boy and an expectant mom.
If she's not in the salon or running around to and from school or the grocery store, she can be found in the kitchen whipping up scrumptious foods. Having a passion for cooking and eating, and being a major foodie she enjoys going out to eat and trying new places. With that said, her and her fiancé are dedicated health nuts and make it a priority to eat right and stay healthy 80% of the time- you have to treat yourself to stay human! You can follow her food and fitness adventures @fit_foodie_couple
She is warm-hearted and has a love for helping people feel and look their ultimate selves!
She moved to Washington in 2005 where she started her schooling at Gene Juarez in Federal Way. Over the course of 10 years, she has continued her education and takes classes as often as she can to keep up to date with the latest trends. One of her neatest experiences so far was a Balayage class she got to attend with celebrity colorist George Papanikolas- some of his clients are Madonna, The Kardashians, Rashida Jones, Hannah Jeter and many more!
A few other classes she has under her belt are an American Crew cutting and fading, and Joico theory and color placement.
She desires to keep her business growing and is so thankful that a huge part of her clientele has followed her from Covington, WA and battles the never ending traffic to see her!
My name is Chelsea and kudos to you for reading my bio! That means you’re not willing to gamble on one of your greatest assets: your hair. If you need someone who takes their time getting to know you and won’t settle for anything less than 100% satisfaction, I’m your girl.
For that reason, consultations are always free. This gives us a chance to chat about your expectations and establish a plan.
My intention for every service is to make sure you leave with healthy hair and a style/color you can maintain. What’s worse than getting an all-new ‘do and waking up the next morning to discover it’s nothing like what you left the salon with? I can equip you with new tricks for styling on the go and guide you through the techniques that have everyone saying, “How does she make it look so easy!?” If you’re willing to learn, I’ll teach you, and when you’re teachable nothing is impossible.
I am a Clover Park Technical College alumni. The staff there are on the cutting edge of major changes in the field and produce quality stylists every year. In the earliest stages of my schooling, I was an intern at Azarra Salon where I was truly inspired by their knowledge, the diversity of cultures, and their overall comfort level with any hair type. After working for a while in other salons, I became a permanent part of the Azarra team. I have been actively working behind the chair for just over three years.
In 2017 our salon was a host for a traveling educational group called the Business of Balayage. These educators are experts in their craft and leaders in their field. I became certified through their intensive hands-on training. Consider me your balayage-guru.
In 2018 I attended the American Board Certified Haircolorist Summit in Las Angeles, California. Aura Mae (the owner of Azarra) is one of five people on the board of this incredibly elite group of colorists. Although I have yet to receive my certification, attending this educational conference was the single most inspiring and innovative learning experience since picking up my first set of scissors. Stay tuned as I work towards my certification and bring the best of our industry right to you!
Because continuing education is important to me, I’ve taken classes in everything from advanced cutting techniques to trendy foiling placement. You can relax and feel confident in my skill set and professionalism no matter your history, ethnicity or age. I can’t wait to meet you!
Jenna is new to the Pacific Northwest having just moved here from Austin, Texas. While she is a New Mexico native, she has been longing to move to the Seattle area for about 10 years now, visiting as frequently as she could. As a child, she was bullied for her unruly hair, which caused her to want to change it. She started experimenting on her own hair with color. As a teenager, her friends began coming to her for hair color, cuts and help with makeup (which all took place in her childhood bathroom.)
As time went on, Jenna started getting heavily involved in her local "high kill" animal shelter, rescuing as many animals on death row as she could. She then went on to get certified in Veterinarian Assistance and Dog Obedience with hopes of one day opening up her own rescue, and also training service dogs. As time went on, Jenna realized that she continued to want to do hair, so she made a full circle and decided to go back to school. She graduated from beauty school and found a new love for color - especially vivid colors.
Jenna now considers herself a self-proclaimed "unicorn maker" with her love of doing bright, fun colors on people. She also specializes and is certified in tape-in hair extensions. When she found Azarra Salon, she was so excited to be on their team. Her love for dogs and passion for hair had finally come together in one creative spot! In her spare time Jenna enjoys being outdoors with her three dogs, going to concerts, trying new food and traveling as often as she can. Jenna is excited to start working and loves meeting new people. You can find her page on Facebook as "Jenna's Beauty Corner>", or on Instagram under "Jennasbeautycorner_" for photos, information about her work, or if you have any questions!
